BSA Troop 2

Information

Who We Are

Troop 2 was chartered September 27th, 2006 and meets every Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church map promptly from 7:00-8:30pm. We are currently comprised of twelve youth from 11-17 years of age from area schools (Community Christian, Santa Barbara Middle, Laguna Blanca, Notre Dame, San Marcos High, Dos Pueblos High).

We operate according to tradition of a boy run troop whereby the boys are organized under the patrol system, each having a youth Patrol Leader and the overall troop operating under a youth Senior Patrol Leader. Together the Patrol Leaders plan, organize and conduct each weekly meeting and monthly outing. Adult leadership is always on hand to lend advice, to assure safety and adherence to scout principles - but it is the youth who run Troop 2.

The boys choose their own trips - car camping, backpacking, biking (both mountain and road), target shooting with both rifles and shotguns, model rocket launches, computer gaming, and much, much more. Traditionally, we have two week-long trips per year, such as a Boy Scout Summer Camp (e.g. Lost Valley, Kern, Whitsett, Emerald Bay), backpacking inside the Grand Canyon, or biking down the historic Highway 1 and Big Sur area. We like variety but the constants are adventure, campfires, and spending time with one another.

The adults of Troop 2 assure the boys have an opportunity to have fun in the troop setting and time in this busy world of ours to be boys, but as importantly to grow responsibly from boys to young men. Along the way they will learn about service to the troop, council, and community. They will learn what it takes to plan and organize. They will have exposure to over 120 merit badges and the opportunity to grow from the ranks from Scout and Tenderfoot all the way to Eagle if they are willing (we have averaged one Eagle Scout per year). We ensure that they enjoy the trip along the way.
